Our Mission

We reimagine and redevelop underutilized spaces for the purpose of education, culture, health, and peace — so that zip codes do not define the success of children, youth, and families.

Our Vision

To spark a world-class cultural renaissance and neighborhood revitalization movement — that establishes the world's most comprehensive children's equity zones.

Our History

Launched in 2016 by Dr. Karlos L. Marshall and Moses B. Mbeseha who met while pursuing their undergraduate degrees at Wittenberg University, in Springfield, OH, The Conscious Connect Community Development Corporation (CDC). is one of the foremost leading international organizations at the intersections of urban education and neighborhood revitalization. Cultivated through the vision and voice of the people, asset-based community development frameworks, and a place-based approach, the organization is the United State’s only grassroots organization with a primary objective of eradicating urban ‘book deserts.’ Operating primarily across the 50-mile radius of the Greater Miami Valley Region between South Springfield and West Dayton, The Conscious Connect, Inc. has established a 21st-century innovative literary ecosystem that sustains literary oasis in low-to-moderate income neighborhoods and communities.

The organization’s founding initiative, ‘The Root,’ established more than 65 literacy stations in barbershops in beauty salons (and other small businesses) to establish an international advocacy campaign to #EndBookDeserts. Championing literature as a human right has become a calling staple of the organization for closing opportunity gaps. Further, the organization has started a movement to change adverse environmental conditions—by working with government agencies to remove blighted structures, acquire vacant lots, and return them back to productive status in the form of neighborhood ‘pocket parks.’ The Conscious Connect, Inc. is an organization that pays homage to previous cultural movements, while simultaneously creating a visionary future for the culture of today and tomorrow.
